Giving a Squiggoth Hardware
I have one of the Forgeworld Squiggoths for my upcoming feral ork army and i am getting one more normal one and one of the gargantuan ones.
This particular one is going to have two cannons as he is a large one. So i needed a way to field cannons, make them stand out as interesting, but it needs to be not to techy as these are ferals after all. i had contemplated a number of things, empire cannons, hellcannons, and other things but they are all either too big or not right.
Then when i was at a tournament i saw something that inspuire me, Trebuchet!
Now there are a couple of issues, firstly i would need to use two trebuchets, one would fit fine, but two will be a squeeze. secondly i would need to turn the howday around, and use it back to front.
This is actually the front, i;ve always found that the symbol was a bit bland.
This is the back, i quite like the front part juts out a bit, and i prefer the glyph.
If i use the back as the front, then the front will be wider than the back, which is good as the terbuchets are wider at the front.
Stage 1, will they fit.
At its widest part of the front, the howdah is 5cm wide inside, assuming i will be removing some of the interior detail.
the trebuchets are 6cm wide, so obviously something will have to go.
Well the two parts shown can be missed, and the two halfs put together, so we completely lose the inside part and on the outside just the bottom and the cross piece, becuase that will go on the outside of the howdah.
so this is one side, and of course the other is reversed
With regards to the outsde strut, this is a rough idea of the plan with that. Now its not perfect scale, but you get the idea. this is to give the model some sideways bulk, and to show how the terbuchets are supported.

So what next, well the ammo has to change. currently its.
Just a big rock, but that won't do, it has to be orkier, and look like it could easily go through a tank, i have a couple of ideas,
This one,
which is the
wrecker ball, or i could use.some sort of barrell, which i would have to find
a piece for, i am sure GW have some barrells. I am leanign towards the barrell
idea, as a) its a bit more rustic, and b) i can have a grot holding a barrell
running along at the back of the squiggoth, 'getting ammo'. and also the barrell
thing has an amusing donkey kong nostalgia about it. The other ideas would be
firing squigs, but thats just a little bit dumb.
The counter weight is next, the exisitn one is just a big rock, and thats a bit dull, so i need some sort of orky rock.
I could use the one from the rock lobba,

i;ll have to look at a friend of mines to see if its big enough, else i will just sculpt one.
Now thats the basic idea, i have a suspiciion i will need to widen the howdah slightly and probably extend the back to give me more room to add ammo and crew. since there is no real room for a driver, i will probably make a small platform at the front for him, and use mostly grots for the crew. I;ll know more about that once i actually assembled the model, i am holding off chopping up the trebuchet yet, as i have not agreed to buy them yet, i want feedback first and ideas. is the trebuceht orky enough or would the rock lobba be better?
So what do people think? looking for all suggestions ideas, critiscims etc. its all helpful. this is one of my biggest projects (and so is the army) and i also have an idea of entering the model in Golden Daemon next year, so it has to look good.
