Introduction
In 2001 we ran the Warhammer 40k competition as a themed campaign, set against
the background of our on-going narrative campaign - all the missions built
on each other, from scouting missions at the beginning to climactic battles
at the end. We created a background of an Imperial Crusade to liberate a planet
under the control of the followers of Chaos. Briefings were provided for all
the major races so that you could see why your army was taking part in the
battle. In addition all the battle results got tabulated together to provide
an overall result. In the end with the help of the enigmatic Eldar the forces
of the Imperium were triumphant and liberated the planet.
Many participants enjoyed the fact that their battles added to the overall result and enjoyed being part of an on-going event. Several people mentioned that they would have liked to know what was going on earlier so they could have integrated their own army's background into the event background.
In 2002 we've planned to do the same competition style. This time we thought that we would provide some information about the background so that the players could chose to use this when preparing their armies own theme as to why they are here and what they are doing. We will be providing some additional background information (in the form of narrative reports) from some of our characters as we build up to the competition - so remember to keep checking the Tiberius website regularly.
You can be part of the story as well. When you register, if you send in some background material for your army (especially names of prominent characters and the home sector/planet/battleship/Craftworld etc. of your force) we can help integrate you into the background. Also, by sending us some of the battle reports you are fighting with your army - especially if they are against someone else that is coming - we can get a feel for what's happening back in your home sector.
